Netflix has premiered a fresh documentary named Bitconned, delving into the stories of three individuals who orchestrated scams amounting to millions of dollars. Notably, among those spotlighted is Ray Trapani, who co-founded Centra Tech.
The documentary includes interviews with Trapani, his family, ex-friends, and the journalist who uncovered Centra Tech’s role as the pioneering fraud case in the cryptocurrency era, leaving viewers curious about Ray Trapani’s current endeavors.
What Is Ray Trapani Up To Now?
As per the official trailer of Bitconned on YouTube, the documentary’s synopsis states,
“Ray Trapani had always wanted to be a criminal, even as a young boy. In 2017, amidst the economic frenzy of the Bitcoin boom, there was no better place for scammers than cryptocurrency. So when Ray’s friend approached him with the idea of creating a debit card for crypto, Trapani jumped at the chance.”
In the trailer, Trapani remarks,
“We didn’t know anything about this business, but it didn’t matter at all. It was too easy.”
Alongside Sam Sharma and Robert Farkas, Trapani co-founded Centra Tech, Inc. However, in 2018, the SEC charged the trio, alleging their involvement in a fraudulent scheme linked to Centra Tech’s 2017 initial coin offering, during which the company distributed digital tokens to investors.
Robert A. Cohen, Chief of the SEC Enforcement Division’s Cyber Unit, stated, “We allege that the Centra Tech co-founders went to great lengths to create the false impression that they had developed a viable, cutting-edge technology.”
The complaint accused Trapani, Sharma, and Farkas of being the “architects behind the Centra Tech fraud.” Allegedly, Centra Tech promoted itself by making claims about non-existent partnerships with major credit card companies.
Trapani, Sharma, and Farkas pleaded guilty. Trapani received a sentence of time served and a three-year supervised release in 2022.

In 2023, it appears that Ray Trapani is prepared to disclose his narrative on Netflix.
His Instagram profile displays a post from 2021 where he is seen alongside what seem to be his companions. More recently, he has re-shared the Bitconned trailer, a documentary in which he is prominently featured.
Who IS Ray’s Wife?
Ray Trapani allegedly has a spouse named Kimberly Costanzo. They purportedly crossed paths while on bail and wearing ankle bracelets. Within a month of their meeting, Kimberly became pregnant.
Trapani asserted that his father-in-law and wife were co-signers for a loan, subtly implying that his questionable past might persist. He hinted at the possibility of having stashed away some of the money acquired from Centra’s users.
Regarding his wife, Kimberly seems to be employed as a Long Term Substitute Teacher. Previously, she held positions as a JV Soccer Head Coach at St. Mary’s High School, a Coordinator at Nubest, and worked in Guest Services at The Inn At Fox Hollow Hotel.
The couple appears to have at least two sons.
